Masienda Carne Asada Tacos with Salsa Verde, Grilled Onions and Queso Fresco

Carne asada refers to both the dish and the event, a meat-centric cookout beloved across Northern Mexico. In the case of the dish, it’s a marinated, grilled steak (asada or asado means roasted in Spanish) that’s cut into thin strips and often tucked into warm corn tortillas, alongside a fresh, spicy salsa and grilled onions.

The result is a more nutritious, earthy and naturally sweet taste, plus a softer texture.

You can cook and reheat your tortillas in the Ooni – once you do, you’ll understand why Masienda found this to be the fastest and most effective method for whipping up carne asada tacos yet. For best results, marinate your steak for at least two hours and up to overnight in the fridge, and don’t skimp on the salsa macha (a popular Mexican condiment that usually includes dried chili peppers, oil, garlic, nuts and seeds). Masienda recommends using a comal – a circular-shaped griddle made of blue carbon steel – but a skillet pan will also work for cooking your veggies, steak and tortillas. Feel free to top your tacos however you like, but we’re partial to queso fresco, grilled onions, lime and fresh cilantro. Short on time but still want tacos?
